    Al Ahli

A memorable year for Al Ahli. The Red Knights reached the Asian Champions League final for the first time in their history in the continenal club competition, losing narrowly to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Guangzhou Evergrande. On top of that, they’ve made a solid start to the Arabian Gulf League season winning eight of their first nine games.

    Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing

The team, skippered by Ian Walker, claimed a first overall Volvo Ocean Race victory in June. They triumphed after finishing fifth in the ninth and final leg of the 38,739-nautical mile race. After nearly nine months sailing around the world, the ADOR’s success represented a massive boost for sailing in the region especially with Abu Dhabi-native Adil Khalid being part of the winning team.

    UAE National Football Team

UAE impressed in the Asian Cup in Australia this year, claiming a resounding third place after making the semis, with their playmaker Omar Abdulrahman stealing the show Down Under with his talismanic performances. Mahdi Ali’s men are also currently in the mix to grab a place in the third round of the 2018 Asian World Cup qualifiers.

    Abu Dhabi Saracens

Saracens finished second in the Gulf Top Six – behind Doha – after putting in a succession of dominant displays. However, that disappointment was forgotten when Sarries clinched the Asian Cup after beating Doha 26-20 in the final game of the season. To further compound their success, Ali Thompson was named UAE Coach of the Year and no.8 Jaen Botes took home the much coveted Player of the Year gong.

    Skydive Dubai Pro Cycling Team

Skydive Dubai riders have claimed 32 wins in stages and one-day races this season, and have captured five general classification jerseys in the Tour of Egypt,  La Tropicale Amissa Bongo,  Sharjah Tour, Jelajah Malaysia and most recently Tour of Al Zubarah. A remarkable year for the UAE’s first pro cycling team – one that was only founded in 2014.
