  • Axar Patel played in all five ODIs against New Zealand.

India have been handed a double blow as spinners Jayant Yadav and Axar Patel are set to miss the limited overs leg of England’s tour to India.

According to Indian news daily Times of India, Axar might have to undergo surgery for the thumb injury he sustained during the fifth Test between India and England where he came on as a substitute fielder.

Axar will be joined on the sidelines by another spin bowling all-rounder in Yadav. The Haryana cricketer was impressive during his debut Test series recently, making some crucial contributions for India with both bat and ball against England.

Jayant continues to suffer from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the fifth Test at Chennai last week.

    • Wickets: 9

While Ravichandran Ashwin (who is also recovering from an injury) and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to be picked as the frontline spinners in the series, Amit Mishra is set to retain his place after an inspiring ODI series against New Zealand in October.

Left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav could be drafted into the squad as the fourth spinner, after his stunning Ranji Trophy campaign for Uttar Pradesh.

India and England will face off in three ODIs and three T20Is with the first ODI scheduled to take place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on January 15.
