  • Reports surfaced in recent days that Hyderabad would not be able to host the only Test between India and Bangladesh scheduled in February.

But the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has been quick to dismiss the reports – stating that they have never had any reluctance to host the match.

Speaking to PTI, HCA secretary K John Manoj insisted that the association is seeking advertisers to appear inside the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium during the Test.

“Let me set the record straight that HCA has never ever shown reluctance to host the Test,” said Manoj. “We are issuing tender notice for in stadia advertisement today.

“Also we are set to sign a deal with TCM (Twenty First Century Media) within a day or two. I don’t know who spread all these rumours.”

There has been confusion regarding international matches in India over the past week after the Supreme Court of India sacked BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke.

Manoj clarified that the HCA have done enough to get funds for the match.

“Every association needs clearance from the Supreme Court and everyone has got allocated funds cleared by Apex Court,” Manoj explained.

“Did any of the Test matches stop? Let me tell you we have organised for enough funds to host the Test match which will procure through in stadia rights.”

Manoj further added that Bangladesh want to visit India a week earlier so that they can play a practice match before the Test.

“In fact Bangladesh want to come a week early for practice match. We have enough funds for that also. Therefore I believe it is some BCCI officials, who probably are disqualified, want to spread baseless rumours. So I put it again: Hyderabad is hosting the Test match.”

The one-off Test is scheduled to begin on February 8.
