Indian opener Murali Vijay notched up his ninth Test century on day one against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.

Vijay was at his best, scoring 108 as India ended the day in an advantageous position at 356-3 with captain Virat Kohli also hitting a ton.

Speaking after the day’s play, the Tamil Nadu batsman explained a change made to his batting recently has paid dividends.

“See, I was playing at the balls that I should be leaving actually. I went back home and gave it a thought, came back to Bombay [England Test in Mumbai] and played in the way I would play rather than playing for the situation which was putting too much pressure on me,” said Vijay.

“These are small things, I rectified in the Bombay Test.”

Despite being one of the most consistent members of the Indian Test side, Vijay hasn’t represented the Men in Blue in limited overs cricket for a really long time. He, though, is ready if any opportunity arises.

“As I am playing one format of the game at the moment, I have got a decent idea about it and hang of it. I want to give as many consistent starts as possible for India. I am ready for my opportunity in other two formats as well,” he added.
