  • KL Rahul in action on Friday.

The Indian team, led by Virat Kohli, are currently in Sri Lanka for a full tour and things got underway on Friday with the start of a two-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI.

The visitors had a good day on the field as the left-arm spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja took seven wickets between them to bowl Sri Lanka Board President’s XI out for just 187.

Kuldeep, who made his Test debut earlier this year against Australia, picked up four wickets and conceded just 14 runs while Jadeja’s bowling figures read 3-31.

Fast bowler Mohammed Shami was also among the wickets, accounting for two scalps.

For the home team, the top scorers were Danushka Gunathilaka (74) and captain Lahiru Thirimanne (59). The duo put on a 130-run partnership for the second wicket before the Indian spinners took charge.

In reply, the Indians managed to get to 135-3 before the close of day’s play.

KL Rahul – who missed the IPL, Champions Trophy and the tour to West Indies recently after undergoing a shoulder surgery – scored 54 from just 58 deliveries. His fellow opener Abhinav Mukund though, had a disappointing outing as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck.

Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were the unbeaten batsmen at the end of day’s play, on 34 and 30 respectively.
