  • Shadab Khan will get his first taste of the Big Bash League.

Pakistan’s young leg-spinner Shadab Khan has signed for Big Bash League (BBL) side Brisbane Heat for the upcoming season.

The 18-year-old becomes the second international import for the Brisbane-based outfit after the signing of former Kiwi skipper Brendon McCullum.

The teenage leg-spinner had burst on to the international stage in March this year during Pakistan’s tour to the Caribbean.

Shadab finished with an impressive 3-7 in his four overs in his first ever T20 match against the West Indies. He turned some more eyebrows when he returned with figures of 4-14 in his very next game.

His showing in the Caribbean earned the youngster a spot in Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in England in the summer.

His leg –spin fetched him nine wickets including two against India in the final as Pakistan went on a dream run to clinch the trophy when few gave them a chance.

Shadab was the first-draft pick for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side Trinidad Knight Riders in the ongoing edition where he has picked up 10 wickets in the six matches he played.

Heat’s coach Daniel Vettori had told reporters that the Pakistan bowler had been signed on the recommendation of McCullum who has been playing alongside the youngster for the Knight Riders.

Heat’s latest capture could turn out to be quite a coup for the BBL outfit based on Shadab’s T20 record of 36 wickets in 23 matches at an average of 14 and an economy rate of just 6.10.

They will begin their BBL campaign against Melbourne Stars on December 20. The youngster meanwhile will be in action soon for Pakistan in the upcoming Independence Cup series against the visiting ICC World XI.

The two sides will play three T20 clashes starting September 13 in Lahore.
