  • It’ll come as no surprise that English batsmen dominate the top five run-scorers list in Test cricket for 2016. After all, England played 17 Test matches in the calendar year – far more than any other team.

Joe Root leads the way with 1477 runs to his name at an average of a touch under 50. He is followed by his Test captain Alastair Cook and county-mate Jonny Bairstow.

India’s Virat Kohli finds himself at the fourth spot on the list. The Indian skipper has the best average and scored the most centuries among the batsmen who make up the top five.

Pakistan’s Azhar Ali, who scored a splendid double century against Australia at the MCG earlier this week, completes the list – having notched up 1189 runs at an average of above 60.

Here, we look at the stats of the top five run-getters in Tests in 2016.
