Shakib Al Hasan came into bat in a difficult situation when Bangladesh were reduced to 64/3 on day three of the Test against India.

The 29-year-old went on to notch up his 21st Test half-century before getting dismissed for 82. The all-rounder was well supported by captain Mushfiqur Rahim, with the duo stitching together a 107-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Before Shakib got into his groove though, he had to survive some quality bowling from Indian pacer Umesh Yadav.

Umesh is usually considered to be an inconsistent bowler, but his game came together on Saturday.

After the end of day’s play, Shakib was full of praise for Umesh and called the spell probably the best one he has ever faced in his cricketing career.

“He [Umesh] was bowling really well, probably the best spell I faced in my career. It was tremendous the way he was moving the ball both ways, all credit goes to him,” Shakib said.

“I was thinking I need to be positive at that time. If there was a ball to hit, I would obviously hit it and the rest I would play with soft hands, and make sure that I didn’t nick it.”

There were questions raised about Shakib’s dismissal after he mistimed a lofted shot straight to mid-on. He, though, wasn’t too fazed by that as he was batting in an attacking fashion during the entire innings.

“If you look at my innings, I was always playing shots. That one I didn’t connect well and that’s all I can say,” added Shakib.

“Other than that I think it was very positive the way I was batting I didn’t want to change my innings. I was playing the way I have been playing for the last five six years.”
