India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the fastest bowler to reach 250 Test wickets when he dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim in Bangladesh’s first innings in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Playing in his 45th Test, Ashwin bettered the previous record which was held by legendary Australia fast bowler Dennis Lillee who got to the mark in his 48th Test.
Mushfiqur’s wicket was Ashwin’s second in Bangladesh’s innings, having taken the scalp of Shakib Al Hasan on Friday. He ended the innings with figures of 2/98.
In September last year, the Tamil Nadu spinner had become the second quickest bowler after Australia’s Claire Grimmett to get to 200 Test wickets.
At the completion of Bangladesh’s first innings, Ashwin had 250 wickets in 45 Tests at an average of 25.16.
