South African captain AB de Villiers added another feather to his cap by becoming the quickest batsman to score 9000 runs in One-Day Internationals [ODIs].

De Villiers achieved the feat during his knock in the ODI against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday. He scored 85 as the Proteas won the game by 159 runs.

Saturday’s innings was the 205th of de Villiers’ career, bettering the previous record of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly who got to the landmark in his 228th ODI innings.

De Villiers now has 9080 runs to his name from 214 ODIs at an average of 54.04 and a strike-rate of exactly 100. He is currently ranked second on the ICC ODI Rankings for Batsmen.
