  • Fresh colours: Yuvraj has swapped RCB for Delhi this season.

Delhi captain JP Duminy claims new signing Yuvraj Singh is capable of winning matches on his own as the Daredevils look to address their poor form of 2014.

Delhi were rock bottom of the standings last year, winning just twice and were eight points adrift of the next-worst team, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

As a result, they made some wholesale changes to their side bringing in Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews as well as experienced Indian duo Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj, with the Daredevils his fourth IPL franchise having made his debut for Kings XI in 2008.

Duminy, who replaces Kevin Pietersen as captain this season, is excited about what the 2011 World Cup winner will bring to the ranks.

He said: “It doesn’t matter if he hasn’t been part of the Indian team for a long time. He is a match-winner and I have no doubt that in this IPL he will win games on his own.

“We have seen that year after year where he has put in big performances and I know he takes a lot of pride in his performance. I have no doubt we can expect some big things from him for DD this time.”

Attitude, and a desire to change the mentality of last season, seems to be a huge focus for Delhi before they even begin to dream of a place in the knockouts.

First up on Thursday is a trip to the MAC Stadium against Chennai.

Duminy added: “We spoke about getting dirty and putting our bodies in the line. There is no guarantee of results but we have got to give ourselves a good chance.”

The Super Kings have also added experience to their own ranks with 39-year-old Australian batsman Michael Hussey and all-rounder Irfan Pathan joining.

Coach Stephen Fleming is confident Chennai can go all the way this year but is cautious of what a new-look Delhi side could be capable of.

He said: “There are no easy games. They are a new side and so getting together and understanding each other’s style of play will be a challenge. But it could be our disadvantage not knowing what team they will put out.”
