  • Big hit: 40 teams came together to create an action-packed festival.

Over 700 youngsters took part in the biggest ever HSBC Rugby Festival Doha on Friday.

40 teams from across the GCC descended on Qatar for the final leg of this year’s HSBC Youth Rugby Series, with competitors ranging from six to 18 years old.

All of those involved were battling it out for points towards the end of season prizes on offer.

Doha were crowned winners in the under-8 and under-18 age groups, while teams from Dubai and Abu Dhabi also took home trophies.

Presenting the awards was Rory Lawson, ex-Scotland captain and HSBC Rugby Ambassador, who was impressed by the level of skill and commitment on show in Doha.

“It’s truly a privilege for me to be involved in festivals such as the HSBC Rugby Festival Doha and be able to give something back to the sport I so love,” said Lawson.

“I’m amazed by the energy and commitment shown by everyone involved in keeping the game so alive at the junior level and it’s as this early stage that kids form lifelong bonds with one another and with the sport.

“The HSBC Youth Rugby Series is a fantastic tool for supporting the growth of the game and promoting the values of rugby.”

HSBC customers who came down to the event were treated to gifts and rewards including rucksacks and blankets, while children were able to take part in interactive games at the HSBC Skills Zone.
