Manchester United are set to make a move to sign Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil on a free once he is able to speak to other clubs from January, The Independent has learned.
Jose Mourinho and Mesut Ozil both joined Real Madrid in 2010 and worked well together with the Portuguese putting faith in the player who went on to be recognised as one of the finest playmakers in Europe.
As good as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata have been, Mourinho is a huge fan of Ozil’s and would gladly snap him up on a free transfer. The two maintain a close relationship and the Portuguese even wrote the foreword for Ozil’s biography. It remains to be seen what this would mean for their plans to bring Antoine Griezmann in though.
Arsene Wenger is considering a swap deal with PSG in January, which would see Julian Draxler replace Alexis Sanches at Arsenal, according to the Daily Star.
And the French giants are believed to be tempted by the idea, even though Draxler only joined them in January.
Sanchez at this point is guaranteed to leave Arsenal and Wenger would do well to bring in a replacement who boasts plenty of quality but also has scope for improvement. The Frenchman has been a fan of Draxler’s for years and the German’s stock has dropped significantly over the course of his squad role at PSG.
With Sanchez to use as a bargaining chip, this could be the time to land his man and avoid losing the Chilean for nothing in the summer.
