  • Put your team-building and communication skills to the test to reign supreme.

Here’s your chance to swap the office for the race track as the Abu Dhabi Dash returns for its second edition later this month.

Zayed Sports City will again be the venue for the event on October 24, that will see you put your team-building and communication skills to the test to reign supreme in a friendly competition.

Whether you’re someone who regularly exercises or not, the race provides something for everyone. Racing as a team of no more than 10, each member will run 1.5km around the 15km team distance.

Once you’ve crossed the finish line, the fun doesn’t stop there. There will be an Activity Village with a full programme of live demonstrations and exercises, as well as the after-party.

Last year around 40 teams signed up and Sally Corander, managing director of Interact, organisers of the event, says this month’s edition looks set to be even bigger.

“It was really huge last year,” she said. “The turnout was really good. We had around 40 teams from different organisations. The difference with these kind of events is that it’s accessible for everyone. It encourages people to get active and it’s not just for the sporty types. Even if you’re not a regular athlete, it doesn’t matter, it’s just about doing something for the team in a fun environment. Because of that, we get a lot of corporate people.

“And this year, we have NMC Healthcare on board and they are pushing it as well. We expect to get around 40 to 50 teams signed up, which would see around 500 people competing.”

As many as 40 teams participated in the first edition.

The UAE capital will also be the venue for the inaugural Mini Dash, open for children to compete with their friends on November 10.

To be held at Umm Al Emarat Park, Abu Dhabi, it’s for kids aged between five-13 with three age categories and relay distances to choose from, varying from 400m to 1km.

Children can enter individually and be placed into a team or sign up as a group of five. And just like the Abu Dhabi Dash, there will be plenty of entertainment and activities in the Activity Village.

“We realised that from the corporate races that we held, people wanted something for the whole family. It follows our mission of getting kids active as well,” explains Corander.

Among the companies to support the Dashes are NMC, strategic healthcare partner. Prasanth Manghat, CEO of NMC Healthcare, added: “We are delighted to join Abu Dhabi government departments in their quest to build a legacy of a healthier and an active generation.

“We want to lay emphasis on preventive medicine and healthy lifestyle in the community.”
