  • Aguirre (l) and Khrbin.

As we enter the business end of the season and with so much still to play for, there is no shortage of talking points and key figures littered through the league.

    PLAYER OF THE WEEK

    PATRICK EZE (Fujairah)
Fujairah were in desperate need of a hero with relegation looming. The Nigerian striker stepped up, supplying a perfect free-kick and fine individual effort in a 3-1 win at Al Jazira. Even if the Wolves are relegated, his 13 goals mean he shouldn’t be going down with them.

    GOAL OF THE WEEK

    YOUSEF JABER (Bani Yas)
Few more ferocious goals have been scored anywhere in the world this season. The defender unleashed an Exocet missile of a free-kick, almost bursting the net from 35 yards out. His left foot should be registered as a dangerous weapon on this evidence.

    COACH OF THE WEEK

    JAVIER AGUIRRE (Al Wahda)
The ex-Atletico Madrid and Mexico boss promised a trophy and AFC Champions League qualification upon his summer arrival. His dual mission is almost accomplished after Friday’s 3-0 demolition of rivals Al Wasl. There could be much more than the Arabian Gulf Cup to celebrate next term.

    TALKING POINT

    AL DHAFRA’S STRIKING GEM
There was little fanfare when Omar Khrbin joined fellow Syrian Mohammed Kwid at Al Dhafra during the winter transfer market. But the head coach knew an unmined gem when he saw one. The forward’s brace in the 4-0 dismantling of Dibba Al Fujairah took him onto an incredible nine goals in 10 AGL games. Comfortable playing anywhere across the front line and with seven goals in Syria’s World Cup qualifying campaign, he would be a smart addition for big guns Al Nasr, Al Jazira and even Al Ain.
