  • Pogba is closing in on his switch to Old Trafford.

A Juventus spokesperson said on Sunday afternoon that the France international has been given the green light to undergo fitness checks as his proposed switch back to Old Trafford edges closer, and United also confirmed soon after that the deal was close.

According to reports, the deal could be worth 110 million euros (£93.2million), beating the estimated £85million that Real Madrid paid to Tottenham for Gareth Bale.

The Premier League club released a short statement saying the 23-year-old “has been granted permission to have a medical in order to finalise his transfer from Juventus to Manchester United” – alongside the hashtag ‘POGBACK’.

United added that the medical would take place at their AON training complex.

The Italian champions are currently in London, where they played West Ham in a friendly on Sunday to mark the opening of the London Stadium.

Pogba was not with his team-mates as he has been on leave following his exertions for France at Euro 2016.

Last week Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri told a press conference ahead of the Hammers clash that Pogba “has training in Vinovo on Monday”.

He added: “It makes no sense at the moment talking about potential replacements for Pogba because, right now, Pogba is a Juventus player.”

However, it now appears Juventus are resigned to losing the player they picked up for £800,000 when he left United in 2012.

A deal appeared close on Friday when Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho said a big signing could be expected over the next few days.

Mourinho mentioned trying to close their transfer dealings before August 14, and that the club were “going to get a very good midfield player”, while adding: “Pogba is a Juventus player until officially he isn’t.”
