  • Chelsea and Manchester City clash on Saturday in a duel between Premier League heavyweights.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at some of the notable recent clashes between the sides.

    CHELSEA 2 MANCHESTER CITY 1 (October 27, 2013)

Fernando Torres settled a thrilling encounter in Chelsea’s favour with a gift of a stoppage-time winner after a rush of blood from City goalkeeper Joe Hart and a mix-up with defender Matija Nastasic.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho celebrated exuberantly by going into the crowd looking for his son. Torres had earlier set up Andre Schurrle for the opener before Sergio Aguero equalised.

The odd sight of Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer Frank Lampard playing against them became even more uncomfortable for the Londoners as the veteran midfielder netted a late equaliser for 10-man City after coming off the bench. Lampard, released by Chelsea four months earlier, had joined City on a short-term deal before moving to New York.

He refused to celebrate and later admitted he felt mixed emotions after cancelling out Schurrle’s opener. City earlier had Pablo Zabaleta sent off.

City outplayed champions Chelsea, with goals from Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho. The defeat piled on the problems for Mourinho’s winless side after a difficult week dominated by the manager’s row with two of his medical staff.

It was Manuel Pellegrini’s third win in 14 attempts against Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea for a second time four months later.

Chelsea staged a second-half fightback to claim a stunning win that ended with a bench-clearing melee and two red cards.

Aguero was sent off in injury time for a nasty challenge on David Luiz and Fernandinho also saw red in the scuffle that followed as City lost their cool at the end of a damaging defeat.

Diego Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard scored for Chelsea, who had trailed to a Gary Cahill own goal.

Hazard scored twice as Chelsea fought off the challenge of City to take a step closer to the title.

Goalkeeping errors contributed to the opening goals as Hazard shot through Willy Caballero (now Chelsea’s back-up goalkeeper) and Thibaut Courtois gifted City an equaliser, scored by Aguero.

Hazard saw a penalty saved by Caballero, but tucked in the follow up for what proved to be the winner.
