  • Every week we pick 22 of the best performing players in Europe’s top five leagues and, with your help, narrow it down to the best XI.

Using polls on our Instagram stories, we pit players in each position against each other and let you decide who deserves to make the cut.

After a strong display in El Clasico, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos makes it in as do duos from Inter Milan and Real Sociedad. Up front, we also have two hat-trick heroes.

Here’s what our latest European Team of the Week looks like:

    GK: Edouard Mendy (Chelsea)

A rather cagey affair at Old Trafford only sprung into life sporadically when Manchester United managed to force a few decent saves from the new Chelsea custodian. His effort to deny Marcus Rashford a late winner was particularly impressive.

    RB: Danilo D’Ambrosio (Inter Milan)

The 33-year-old actually operated on the right of a back three but managed to get forward on occasion and delivered a great cross for Lautaro Martinez at one point. He was assured in defence and ghosted in at the far post to head home the second goal.

    CB: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

Ramos has played more Clasicos [45] than anyone else, and it showed. He put in an inspired performance to lead his team to victory, converting from the spot to give Madrid the lead in the second half. His tackle during the closing stages on Lionel Messi in full flight was a highlight.

    CB: Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan)

Excelled in his first start of the season, holding Inter’s back three together expertly. He was excellent with his distribution and ended with a pass success rate of 96 per cent. Dealt with Goran Pandev well.

    LB: Mitchel Bakker (PSG)

The 20-year-old left-back continues to impress at Paris Saint-Germain. He began the game well by getting forward down the left and whipping in a sublime cross for Moise Kean to score. He was sure-footed the rest of the game, making four tackles and supporting the attack when required.

    CM: David Silva (Real Sociedad)

The former Manchester City playmaker made his first La Liga contributions since joining Real Sociedad this summer. Silva was his usual technically brilliant self and was involved in some neat play in midfield. He produced two delicious passes that led to goals in the 4-1 win over Huesca.

    CM: Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

Absolutely dominant in the middle of the park. Kimmich bossed the passing game as he dictated play for the Bavarians. His distribution was on point and he even provided an assist from a corner.

    CM: Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad)

Oyarzabal was a constant threat in attack, taking a game-high five shots. He did a little skip during his run-up for a composed penalty conversion and then attacked a cross from the right brilliantly to power home a header at the far post.

    FW: Patrick Bamford (Leeds United)

A hat-trick against a formidable Aston Villa defence was an emphatic way for Bamford to silence to his critics. He had a staggering nine efforts during the contest. He poached a rebound to break the deadlock before stamping his authority with two quite spectacular finishes.

    FW: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

This was an exhibition in finishing by an elite striker at the height of his powers. First, he lashed in an effort from inside the box nine minutes into proceedings. A towering header then doubled the lead for Bayern Munich before he calmly slotted home from close range to complete his treble.

    FW: Neymar (PSG)

Kylian Mbappe bagged a brace late in the game but with the youngster starting on the bench, it was the Neymar show for the most part. He put in a dazzling display against Dijon, registering seven shots and five dribbles. He also hit the woodwork twice and provided a pair of assists.
