  • Manchester United bound? Antoine Griezmann.

The transfer window may not open again until January 1 2018 but that hasn’t put an end to plenty of speculation throughout Europe.

Here, we take a look at three big stories dominating the headlines on Monday.

Do you think any of these deals will get over the line in January?

    ANTOINE GRIEZMANN

Manchester United are set to pay £100 million to sign Atletico Madrid ace Antoine Griezmann next summer, according to the Daily Star.

The 26-year-old had been linked with a move to Old Trafford earlier in the summer, but Atletico’s transfer ban ended his hopes of a move to the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho remains positive he can lure Griezmann to join the club in 2018, where he could link up with a star-studded attack, including Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial.

    RATING: 5/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

The elusive Frenchman is undoubtedly one of the best attackers in the world – except that he’s declared that he’s not actually available.

Earlier in the summer, when speculation was rife that the Frenchman was on his way to Manchester United, he committed to staying at Atletico in the wake of the club’s transfer ban.

There’s no reason his stance would have changed, but with Diego Costa’s expected arrival in January, United will be front runners to secure his signature if he decides to leave.

    RAHEEM STERLING

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling remains a key target for Arsenal in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The England international was reported to have been suggested by the Gunners to be part of a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez, who has been a City target all summer.

Arsene Wenger expects City to return with a significant bid in January and negotiations for Sterling could resume then.

    RATING: 5/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

Although Pep Guardiola is adamant that Sterling has a vital role to play at the Etihad Stadium, it is understood the 22-year-old is open to a return to London and the chance to play more regularly.

With it being a World Cup year, perhaps it’s the right time for Sterling to move club in the hope of boosting his chances to start for Gareth Southgate’s side in Russia.

    TOBY ALDERWEIRELD

Manchester City are hoping to sign Tottenham centre back Toby Alderweireld next summer, according to The Sun.

Regarded as one of the best defenders in the league, the 28-year-old is believed to be unhappy with his £50,000 per week wages at White Hart Lane.

With Vincent Kompany sidelined through injury again, Pep Guardiola believes Alderweireld can be a long term successor to his Belgian teammate.

    RATING: 7/10

    SPORT360 VERDICT

Alderweireld has not agreed a new deal at Spurs yet, with his adviser Stijn Francis insisting “he deserves either a correct contract from Tottenham or a transfer”.

Although he will cost around £60 million, it remains an ideal long term option for Guardiola as the Belgian rarely misses games through injury and is always a consistent presence.
