  • It’s safe to say that a year ago, not many people outside Manchester would have heard of Marcus Rashford.

The gangly 18-year-old made a stunning debut for Man United with a brace in a 5-1 Europa League victory against Denmark’s Midtjylland three days prior to his Premier League debut against Arsenal – a game in which he bagged two more as United beat famous foes Arsenal 3-2.

The teenager converted Guillermo Varela and Jesse Lingard crosses before setting up Ander Herrera for United’s third.

Rashford has since gone on to score on his Manchester derby and England debuts, and even made the Three Lions squad for Euro 2016 in France last summer.

Other memorable sporting events on this day:

1940: Basketball is televised for the first time when Fordham University take on the University of Pittsburgh at Madison Square Garden.

1988: Pat Verbeek becomes the first New Jersey Devil player to score four goals in a game in an 8-6 win over the Minnesota North Stars.

2005: Celebrity chef Delia Smith’s infamous “Where are you?” rant at Norwich City fans at half time in their 3-2 Premier League loss to Man City.
