  • [L-R] Johnson, Rosewall, Jovetic.

Ken Rosewall was one of the most decorated tennis players of his time. Rosewall, born on this day in 1934, is a former world top-ranking amateur and professional player. He won a record 23 tennis majors including eight Grand Slam singles titles.

Rosewall was a natural lefthander but was taught by his father to play right-handed. Perhaps due to this unorthodox training, he developed a very powerful backhand.

He is considered as one of the top male tennis players of all time and enjoyed a long career at the top levels from the 1950s to 1970s. Rosewall was one of the two best male players for about nine years and was the World No1 player for a number of years in the early 1960s.

At the 1971 Australian Open he became the first male player during the Open Era to win a Grand Slam tournament without dropping a set.

1981: Mitchell Johnson, Australian fast bowler and World Cup winner (34).

1974: Orlando Cabrera, former World Series-winning shortstop with the Boston Red Sox (41).

1987: Danny Cipriani, England and Sale Sharks fly-half with 14 international caps (28).

1989: Stevan Jovetic, Manchester City’s Montenegrin striker, currently on loan at Inter Milan (26).
