  • Broncos fans will remember this day fondly.

Denver running back and San Diego native Terrell Davis won the game’s MVP with 157 rushing yards and a Super Bowl-record three touchdowns.

As well as finally exorcising past ghosts, including three defeats in four seasons from 1987-90, it was also a fitting way for John Elway, one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks, to bow out as he finally one the big one and retired at the age of 37.

The Broncos became just the second wild card team to win a Super Bowl.

1924: The first Winter Olympics opens in Chamonix, France.

1988: Utah Jazz guard Rickey Green scores the NBA ’s 5,000,000th point on a three-pointer in a 119-96 victory
    over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

1995: Man United striker Eric Cantona kung-fu kicks a Crystal Palace fan after being sent off at Selhurst Park.
The Frenchman is later suspended for nine months.

2013: The FA charges Chelsea’s Eden Hazard with violent conduct after kicking a ball boy at a Premier League match with Swansea City.
