Hundreds of cyclists take over Ajman in emirate's first ever cycling event

  • Over 290 cyclists took part in the ride.

    Starting at Fairmont Ajman, the partner hotel, cyclists were cheered on by friends and family as they sped off heading to Al Tallah Camel Racecourse on the 90km journey which concluded at the starting point.

    Simultaneously a 7km charity ride took place with over 78 cyclists taking part creating awareness for Al Ajmani Charity Foundation – the foundation which meets the requirements of families in need by providing charitable services.

    All cyclists reconvened at the Fairmont Ajman for a delicious post-ride breakfast hosted by the hotel as they celebrated their success.

    His Highness Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, said: “It has been a delight to host so many cyclists and visitors here this morning in beautiful Ajman, we have made huge progress in positioning the emirate as a fantastic sporting destination and this morning’s event gives me great confidence that we will continue on our quest with great success.”

    His Excellency Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager of ATDD, said: “This morning’s event is testament of all the hard work from our partners and sponsors who have helped us launch this fantastic sporting experience and on behalf of everyone here we are extremely grateful. It’s great to see so many cyclists come out in force this morning and enjoy what Ajman has to offer, and this is a trend I would like to see continue in the future.”

    Commenting on the event, Henny Schaeffer, General Manager of Fairmont Ajman said: “It’s fantastic to see Ajman come alive this morning with so many cyclists taking part in the first Ride Ajman. In partnership with ATDD we have started our journey to put the emirate on the map as a sporting destination and we look forward to welcoming and hosting everyone in the near future.”

    Crossing the finish line first for the men was Erwan Sidaner with a time of 1:58:59 was awarded with a cheque for AED 3,500. Commenting on his win Erwan said: “It was a very nice track, it was tough at the start as we broke away quickly and we kept the pace but it worked well for me.”

    In the women’s category, Roisin Thomas came in first with a time of 2:22:32 and was also awarded with a cheque of the same value. Roisin said: “I’ve never ridden in Ajman before and I’m so glad I did, the course was routed perfectly and organised very well”

    The winner of the Junior Ride was Ahmed Jasseem with a time of 2:00:16 and was awarded with a mountain bike worth AED3,000.

    Ride Ajman 2016 is sponsored by Ajman Bank, Fairmont Ajman, Al Janahi Real Estate Centre, Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Foundation, Zoom Studio and Queen Palace. The organizers worked with Ajman Police, Ajman Civil Defence and the National Ambulance to avoid any disruptions to roads and ensure the safety of everyone taking part.
