The Australian skipper continues to lead the Test batsmen charts.

Virat Kohli became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to breach the 900-point mark in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen. In the latest rankings released on Thursday, the Indian superstar reclaimed the No2 spot from England skipper Joe Root who moved down to third place.

Following his 153 in the first innings of the Centurion Test against South Africa, Kohli’s ratings jumped from 880 to 900. The highest rating achieved by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar was 898.

Australia captain Steve Smith remains the indisputable leader in the Test format with a whopping 947 rating points, the second highest recorded in the history of the rankings. Only Don Bradman has achieved a better rating of 961 in his career.

The ‘Fab Four’ comprising of Smith, Kohli, Root and Kane Williamson occupy the top slots in the latest rankings.

India’s Cheteshwar Pujara‘s poor showing in South Africa has seen him slip from fifth spot to sixth in the updated rankings with Australia deputy skipper David Warner leapfrogging him.

Hashim Amla moved up two spots to occupy the eighth position with Pakistan’s Azhar Ali remaining steady at No7.

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal and England opener Alastair Cook complete the top 10 with both moving down a spot.
