After his knocks of 167 and 81 at Visakhapatnam in the second Test against England, Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has climbed up 10 places on the latest ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen. The 28-year-old is now ranked fourth, with a career-best rating of 822 points.

With Kohli’s ascend, the top four places are held by cricketers who have often been referred to as the ‘fab four’ batsmen of this generation. Australia’s Steve Smith is first, followed by England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in second and third respectively.

South Africa’s Hashim Amla is in fifth position with 809 points. Amla is part of the Proteas squad that will look to create history this week as they attempt to become the first team to whitewash Australia in a Test series Down Under.

Pakistan’s Younis Khan is sixth, while the injured AB de Villiers has fallen to seventh. Australia’s David Warner, who scored 97 in the second innings of the first Test against South Africa, is eighth.

India’s Cheteshwar Pujara and England’s Alastair Cook, who are known to be traditional artists when it comes to batsmanship, round off the top 10.
