David Warner hit 76 not out.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner struck an unbeaten 76 to lead his side to a second successive comfortable win in the 2017 IPL, dispatching Gujarat Lions with a nine-wicket victory.

The reigning champions’ defence of their title continued at a pace in an all-round display of the highest quality.

Warner’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was inspired as Sunrisers restricted Gujarat to just 135-7 from their 20 overs.

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan was the star with the ball, taking 3-19 from his four overs as he trapped the dangerous Brendon McCullum (5), Suresh Raini (5) and Aaron Finch (3) all lbw cheaply.

Rashid also instigated the run-out of Dhawal Kulkarni in a stellar outing for the Afghan.

Gujarat never got going, only Jason Roy (31), Dinesh Karthik (30) and Dwayne Smith (37) offering any kind of resistance.

Sunrisers’ chase was emphatic despite the early loss of Shikhar Dhawan (9) as Warner and Moises Henriques (52*) made light work of their total.

Warner sealed victory with a six off Tejas Baroka as Sunrisers completed their rout with 27 balls to spare.

Defeat has left Gujarat without victory from their opening two games while Sunrisers are out in front at the top of the table with a maximum four points.

BRIEF SCORES: Gujarat Lions 135-7 (Smith 37; Rashid 3-19); Sunrisers Hyderabad 140-1 (Warner 76*, Henriques 52*; Kumar 1-16)
