Rishabh Pant is considered one of the brightest batting prospects in India and we saw why during his brilliant 43-ball 97 against Gujarat Lions on Thursday.

Chasing a big target of 209, Delhi lost the wicket of stand-in captain Karun Nair early on in the innings, but Pant and Sanju Samson made the chase look like a walk in the park with a stunning 143-run partnership.

Pant was the star of the show as he slammed six fours and nine sixes.

Samson, on the other hand, played the perfect supporting role – scoring 61 runs from 31 deliveries in a knock which included no fours but seven sixes.

In the end, the onslaught from the two youngsters helped Delhi win by seven wickets with 2.3 overs to spare.

Earlier, Gujarat captain Suresh Raina rode his luck during a 43-ball 77. Surviving a couple of dropped catches, Raina was in a very aggressive mood as he hit five fours and four sixes during his innings.

Raina found the perfect partner in Dinesh Karthik, who managed five fours and five sixes during his knock of 65. The duo added 133 runs for the third wicket for the visitors.

Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins both picked up two wickets each and were easily the most impressive bowlers on display, going at economy rates of 7 and 7.5 respectively when no other bowler in the match went at less than 10 runs per over.

After this loss, the Lions have zero hopes of making the playoffs while the Daredevils – with eight points from 10 matches – still have an outside chance.
