  • This morning, after a busy day of european football, it’s Manchester City who are celebrating having secured the first trophy of the season.

They took the lead through Fernandinho but Liverpool got back into the game late in the second half through a Coutinho goal.

The Wembley showpiece went into extra-time but with no one claiming a winner, the game was decided on penalties. It was City’s keeper, Willy Caballero who stole the show saving three spot-kicks helping City grab trophy number one of the season.

Meanwhile in Europe, Barcelona extended their lead at the top of La Liga to eight points after coming from behind to beat Sevilla.

Messi was on the score-sheet for his 30th of the season. Barcelona have now not lost in 34 games in all competitions, matching Real Madrid’s record back in the 1988-89 seaosn..

PSG’s winning run of 36 games has come to an end at the hands of Lyon who beat them 2-1. PSG however, are still 23 points clear of Monaco.

In the Premier League, Manchester United seriously dented Arsenal’s title hopes with a 3-2 win at Old Trafford. Teenage sensation, Marcus Rashford was twice on the score-sheet again.

The moment that got everyone talking however, was Louis van Gaal’s diving impression to the fourth official which is being considered for an Oscar.

Tottenham kept the pressure on Leicester with a 2-1 win over Swansea to close the gap at the top to two points.
